A gas pipeline explosion in Damascus has left Syria without electricity.

Accident left Syria in the dark. The power in the country stopped after a powerful explosion of a gas pipeline northwest of the capital Damascus. The Arab gas pipeline carries blue fuel from Egypt to Jordan and Syria. Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ali Ganem told national television that the explosion of the Arab gas pipeline, which supplies the southern region of the country with blue fuel, could be a terrorist act.

He stressed that the explosion in the section between the towns of Ad Dumair and Adra has disabled three gas transmission stations. According to him, experts are working to repair the damage and restore power. It is reported that the electricity is being sent gradually to the affected Syrian provinces. There was a similar accident in 2013, when rebels against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad blew up another pipeline.
