Afghan Vice President Amrulah Saleh survived an assassination attempt.

Afghan President Amrulla Saleh was assassinated in Kabul, but he was not injured, news agencies reported, citing a spokesman for the vice president.

A bomb exploded as a convoy of cars carrying Saleh passed by. According to the Ministry of Health, two people were killed and seven were injured, Reuters reported.

One of the vice president's aides told AFP that the assassination was the work of a kamikaze terrorist. Afghan television Tolo News reported that three Saleh security guards were killed and 12 were injured.

No one has yet claimed responsibility, but the vice president is known to be a fierce opponent of the Taliban.

In July last year an explosion in the capital, Kabul, has killed at least 20 people and injured 50. The bomb was detonated in front of Amrula Saleh's party headquarters.
