A humpback whale overturned the boat of two curious kayakers.

Two whale watchers found themselves "at arm's length" from a humpback whale as they kayaked off the coast of Avila Beach, California, which they will probably never forget, CNN reported.

Julie McSorley and Liz Cotriel were watching humpback whales when one of the huge mammals decided to "meet" them in person. The whale jumped out of the depths below them and overturned their boat.

"I saw a large school of fish jump out of the water", Maxorley told CNN. "I saw the whale emerge. And I said to myself, Oh no! It's too close".

"Everything happened in seconds. Suddenly I got up and found myself in the water".

In footage taken by a nearby eyewitness, what happened looked as if the whale was "eating breakfast" with the kayakers and swallowing them, only that the boat of the two simply capsized.

The two lucky ones managed to escape unscathed.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says humpback whales are popular with whale watchers because they are active on the surface and often jump and splash in the water with their pectoral fins or tails, creating memorable moments for observers. them.
