A man reached into the crocodile's mouth to save his dog.

A man from Florida rescued his puppy from the jaws of an alligator by diving and fighting the reptile. An interesting fact is that the man does not let the cigar out of his mouth all the time. Video of the battle gathered great popularity on social networks.

An interesting moment for Internet users was the fact that Richard Wilbanks has a cigar in his mouth - which he does not miss all the time.

Richard, 74, was walking with his Spaniel Gunner around a lake near his home in Estero, Florida, when the alligator grabbed the dog, Wilbanks told CNN.

"It came out of the water like a rocket", he said. "I never thought an alligator could be so fast".

Cameras set up by the Florida Wildlife Federation and the fSTOP Foundation captured the dangerous encounter that shows Wilbanks in the lake, with his head submerged as he tried to catch the alligator. He then comes out, holding the reptile, which is still clutching the dog with its jaws.

The man moves to the edge of the pond while trying to free the dog. Eventually he succeeds and his pet runs away.

Richard Wilbanks says he doesn't want the alligator caught. "They are part of nature and of our lives" said the brave man.
