At least ten people died in a fire at a COVID unit in Romania.

Ten people died in a fire in the COVID ward of the district hospital in the Romanian city of Piatra Neamt. They were placed in the intensive care unit and intubated.

Another seven people are in critical condition, including the doctor on duty, who has many burns. He tried until the end to save the patients. Romanian Health Minister Nelu Tataru said the cause of the fire was most likely a short circuit.

Health Minister Nelu Tataru has arrived in Piatra Neamt. From there, he will go to the hospital in Iasi, where the wounded were transferred. The doctor on duty, who has multiple burns, will be transferred to Floryaska Hospital by military plane.

Eight of the victims died in the room on the second floor, where the fire broke out, and two others in the next room. All were treated for coronavirus. The Romanian Prosecutor General's Office is taking over the investigation.
