Several died after a collision of a Greek tanker with a Turkish fishing boat.

A Greek tanker collided with a small Turkish fishing vessel off the coast of Adana County in southern Turkey, Greek television Sky reported.

According to the Greek Ministry of Shipping, the accident happened at 04:52 in the morning, Greek and Cypriot time, 37 nautical miles from the Turkish city of Mersin. The fishing boat capsized on impact.

According to information broadcast by Turkish public television, five Turkish sailors have disappeared. The reasons for the collision remain unclear.

The Greek tanker was carrying a crew of 27 people, including thirteen Greeks, while the exact number of passengers on the inverted Turkish trawler is unknown. A rescue and search operation is underway. Three Turkish Coast Guard ships with a diving team are working in the area.
