Two people were killed and many others were injured in a knife attack on a church in San Jose, California. Homeless people were sheltered there, police said.

It is not specified how many people were injured, but the condition of some of them is serious.

Mayor Sam Licardo announced on Twitter that a suspect had been detained, but the tweet was later deleted. A local radio station claims a 23-year-old man has been detained.

There is currently no official confirmation of the arrest, the Associated Press reported.
