The king of rock had to turn 86 today.

On January 8, one of the greatest legends on the music scene would have turned 86 years old

Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelow, Mississippi to Vernon and Gladys Presley. The mother was pregnant with twins, but one boy, Jesse Garron, died six hours after birth. Thus, Elvis remains the only child in the family

Elvis was 12 when his mother bought him his first guitar. When Elvis was 13, the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from Humes High School in Memphis, Elvis worked as a movie manager and truck driver for Crown Electric.

He starts singing in a local bar - "The Hillbilly Cat"

He first entered the studio in August 1953 to record two songs as a gift for his mother. But Sun Records boss Sam Phillips knows this is the new world star.

In 1955, Elvis achieved great success. His latest small record for The Sun Records climbed to number one on Billboard's national country and western charts. His concert appearances are attracting more and more audiences.

On July 2, 1956, Elvis recorded two of his most famous songs - "Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog". The second became a symbol of rock'n'roll and although the original is not his, today everyone associates this song with him.

Elvis also made his first film role in "Love Me Tender." He has acted in 32 more films.

In 1960, Elvis moved to Hollywood, where he starred in more than 20 films with some of Hollywood's most famous actors.

Elvis is the best-selling solo artist of all time, has been nominated 14 times for a Grammy and won 3, and received the award for overall creativity only 36 years old.

Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977 at his Graceland estate near Memphis at the age of 42.

After his death, his home in Graceland became a holy place for millions of his admirers from all over the world.
